THE BIG ASK
URGENT
APPEAL
Tumaini Brooks has operated successfully for over 20 years. However, in order to safeguard the future of the school and properly care for the well-being of the children there are a number of critical projects which we need to undertake urgently. Recent fires at schools in Kenya have tragically resulted in significant loss of life. As a result, we need to become completely compliant with new government regulations as a matter of extreme urgency
IMPORTANT - FUNDING MATCH
A generous long-term supporter has agreed a $60,000 funding match towards Phase 2 of our projects if we can raise an equal amount from other donors during Quarter 1, 2025.
Please help us complete these critical projects and enable us to match this generous funding by donating as much as you can.
Below are some of the urgent projects we need to undertake:
Our Current Projects
PURE WATER AND SANITATION
Pure water is a fundamental need to sustain life.In the west, we turn on our taps and out comes fresh water, we flush our toilets and our waste disappears.
The current water in Tumaini Brooks is too high in salt concentration to be safe. Sewerage pipes are old and need replacing urgently to provide a clean space for the children and neighbours of the school who are currently impacted by the deficient sewerage.
LIVING ACCOMMODATION PHASE 1
BEDS
Right now, children are sleeping in triple high bunks and often two to a bed. In order to meet government requirements and also provide a safe personal experience we urgently need to finish a floor of the accommodation building which is already constructed. We then need to purchase 250-300 bunk beds and associated equipment.
LIVING ACCOMMODATION PHASE 1
FLOOR/FIRE EXITS
The floors need to be replaced as well as fire exits constructed in appropriate place. This will require a major refurbishment of main teaching and living areas..
SECURITY WALL
For security reasons the perimeter wall is in urgent need of an upgrade. Our children need to be protected from various risks which exist and we need to create a safe environment.
DINING HALL
To comply with local regulations, we need to upgrade our dining and kitchen areas with new equipment
What's in it for me?
Clearly, the main reason for corporate sponsorship is simply to help others. We know there are many causes and perhaps, therefore, many demands on your own financial resources. The reality is, none of us alone can change the world but we can change someone's world.
Sponsors are invited to contribute as generously as possible towards our major capital projects which will cost around £200,000/$250,000. We will keep you appraised of progress and costs at all stages of the project. We will also erect a sign in an appropriate place within the school acknowledging the massive generosity you have shown by contributing.
You may be aware of recent fires at schools in Kenya which have resulted in a tragic loss of life. As a result, we need to become compliant with government regulations as a matter of extreme urgency. Work is already underway on certain projects using existing funds and donations and will continue through to April 2025.
Please see our FAQ's for answers to many common questions which sponsors have.
